I gave a presentation this morning for the research paper I’d done as a capstone project. My hypothesis is that online dating has become popular for three reasons: 1) extensive use of social networking sites & online strategies; 2) sophisticated services & heavy investments in marketing; and 3) public attitude change (more positive) as a result of its popularity.
In this paper about online dating, I gathered some evidence about the popularity/growth of the industry. A Pew research about people’s attitudes toward online dating was cited. There’re some interesting studies that looked at the extent to which people lie in dating profiles (age, height, weight). However, as a remedy, people used a number of strategic balancing & uncertainty reduction strategies to verify information & gain confidence in self-disclosure.
