2011 Golden Globe: let the fashion roll

Some very good wardrobe choices were made at the Golden Globe this year, where sparkle nude gowns were a rave. Here is a summary of the trends:

1. Classy long-sleeve gowns:

Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway and Leighton Meester all looked understated but stunning in these classy gowns. I think Leighton’s dress was a little too conservative with the boxy sleeves, but the sexy slit on the skirt balances it out.

2. Sophisticated A-line gowns:

A-line dresses were popular because the shape fits most body type. Here, Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Kaley Cuoco, Jenna Ushkowitz (Glee), Dianna Argon (Glee) and Carrie Underwood showcase their princess flocks. Carrie was absolutely gorgeous but on the safe side. Sarah’s dress was most interesting with the sweet-heart neckline and laced bodice (I’m loving Max Azria more and more!).

3. Grecian-inspired gowns with flutter sleeves:

Sandra Bullock, Scarlett Johansson and Heather Morris (Glee) prove once again that nudes are always classy and in style. Heather’s dress hugged her slim hour-glass frame perfectly. She accessorized right and the side swept bang was coy and sexy.

4. One-shoulder gowns with ruffle/floral embellishments:

Mila Kunis, Lea Michele, Julie Bowen, Julia Stiles and Christina Hendricks spot variations of this feminine style. Lea’s gown came in a perfect coral hue and resembled a delicate rose. Julia looked rather stiff in a solid black dress that didn’t accentuate her waist. Christina was a knock-out, but all the reds from her hair to her lips might be too much like a Stop sign.

5. Minimalist sheath gowns:

Vanessa Williams, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Hough and Claire Danes were followers. Julianne looked extremely charming and chic with the pulled back pouf and smokey eyes. Claire’s Calvin Klein dress photographed much better than filmed because the color was a little bit too neon-bright when I saw it on TV.

6. Out-of-the-box gowns:

First, everyone raved about the South American babe Sofia Vergara’s Vera Wang gown on the red carpet because she was so sizzling in it. Eva Longoria could not look more classy in her satin-belt gown. She was perfect from the knee up. However, the trail was a little too big for her petite frame.

Heidi Klum really spiced it up with her color-block print, relaxed-fit dress. Halle Berry’s dress fit her foxy cat-woman persona so well. It was sporty but sexy at the same time with the lingerie-inspired bodice, chiffon skirt and bold cuffs.

January Jones of Mad Men stirred the crowd quite a bit because of her bright red cut-out gowns. It was done very tastefully.

Megan Fox was my favorite of the evening. The rosy pink color was absolutely princessy and feminine. The silk skirt was so smooth and perfectly slit, which provided great contrast in the jeweled, bandage bodice.

Stick around for the stars whose gowns really need a makeover.
